You can not leave the country without a passport or the damaged passport with several pages left. There will be a lot of unexpected things happen during your trip. One of the tough cases is you losing your passport with your Vietnam visa in it and some reason your passport is destroyed of damage for several pages.

First of all, send the claim for loss of passport to the local police in the area where the applicant passport gets lost or the place registered for your temporary residence. The applicant must state the name, nationality, passport number, date and place of issue, and the issuing agency. The local police will certify the claim.

After sending the claim for losing passport and get the certificate from the local police, the applicant should contact their embassy or consulate-general in HA NOI or HO CHI MINH City, Vietnam to obtain new a travel permit or a new passport.

The Department of Foreign Affair will forward the note to the Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Control Department announcing the cancellation of the lost passport, and request the issue of an exit visa for the applicant.

The Applicant will submit an application including the note of the consulate-general, the request of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the claim of loss of passport certified by the local police and the travel permit to the Immigration Control Department, attached with a declaration as perform stipulated by the Ministry of Public Security.

The Immigration Control Department will process a new Vietnam exit visa in your new passport. 

If your passport is only destroyed or damaged for several pages you do do not have have to send the claim for a destroyed passport at the local police station. Visit your embassy or consulate-general in HA NOI or HO CHI MINH city to make a new passport and some travel documents and bring them to the Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Control Department to make an exit visa only.

You have to leave Vietnam within 7 days since the time you received your exit visa. Apply for an exit visa when your passport gets lost take a lot of time for the paperwork so you have to make sure you have enough time for all of the process till the day you fly out.

After contact with the embassy and receive the letter prove that your current Vietnam visa is lost and cancel,  you can bring your documents to some reliable agent to process the exit visa,  in case you do not have enough time to contact the Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Control Department.
